Traditionally, the Sacrament of Confirmation is the second of the sacraments of initiation, and the Eastern Church continues to confirm (or chrismate) infants immediately after Baptism. In the West, Confirmation is routinely delayed until a person’s teen years, several years after his First Communion. (Pope Benedict XVI’s Apostolic Exhortation Sacramentum Caritatis). Confirmation is the perfection of Baptism, and it gives us the grace to live our lives as a Christian boldly and without shame.

At St. Philomene

Religious Education is a nurturing process to encourage our youth to develop a lifelong relationship with God. Liturgy of the Word and Sacramental Preparation is offered for grades 7-12 on Sunday mornings. Registrations are during June and July and the formation year starts in September. To register please fill out the registration form and bring it to the Faith Formation Office (Marian Center)  along with the student’s Baptism and First Communion Certificate.

Adult Confirmation

This program is defined by the Bishop and it guides adult Catholics who were never confirmed through a process leading to the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation. This process takes several weeks of preparation and the sacrament of Confirmation is received at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament along with other adults from all around the Sacramento Diocese. Call the Parish Office for more information.
