Marriage, a lifelong union between a man and a woman for procreation and mutual support, is a natural institution, but it is also one of the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church. It reflects the union of Jesus Christ and His Church.
Engaged couples should contact the parish priest or deacon to begin preparation a minimum of six months prior to the date of the ceremony.
Marriage Convalidation
Would you like to be married in the Catholic Church? If you are Catholic and married in a civil or non-Catholic ceremony, we can convalidate your marriage in the Church.
St. Philomene Church can facilitate ceremonies to convalidate non-Catholic marriages. The Catholic Sacrament of Matrimony is necessary to validly receive the Eucharist or the other Sacraments.
You are therefore eligible for the Catholic ceremony if you are married now and have no previous marriages. There are some paperwork and small amount of preparation required. The cost to you for preparation and marriage are minimal.
St. Philomene would also like to help couples who have previous marriages to obtain an annulment and be married in the Catholic Church in order to validly receive the Eucharist and the other Sacraments.
If you are interested, please call the Parish Office at (916) 481-6757 or email our Secretary at secretary@stphilomene.com for more information and to see how we can help you.
